w00t, another update! And in only a little over a week! I still don't know if I can make it into a schedule again, but at least I'm a little closer now that I don't count the time between in months. I know I talked about going back to black & white maybe to speed things up, but it seemed to me that the chyrons wouldn't make any sense if they weren't in color.
BTW ... If you still don't know where "HOT DICKINGS" comes from, you need to check out Here Comes Dr. Tran. He's a DOCTOR. From AMERICA.
So, currently at work I'm delving back into Flash and ActionScript. Looking for fixes to my problems drives me nuts because (a) the fixes never work, and (b) the Flash debugger is useless. It's times like this that I wish that Java wasn't a dismal failure and that it actually could support some basic stuff (like image scaling and rotation). There are hacks out there that'll allow you direct framebuffer access so that you could write your own custom renderer in Java, but the Java VM in and of itself is an utter blight on the user experience. In 1995, it was the wave of the future. In 1998 it was still very promising. In 2000 it was pretty much accepted for dead. And by 2002, two years after it became practically useless, tons of colleges and universities were adopting it as the new standard language. Anybody who comes to a college for computer science thinking they'll be prepared for a job when they leave would be severly disappointed at this point.
I was thinking a while ago that maybe I should get in contact with my alma mater and try to help them develop a web application programming class so that at least CS students would get something practical ... but that's a task for another time.
