Otakon 2006 is over and it was one of the better ones I'd been to in the past few years. The con itself wasn't really any better than last year, but Beth and I branched out a bit and tried some new things that really changed the experience. We stayed at a hotel by BWI airport and drove in each day. We weren't sure that it would necessarily be better than staying in the inner harbor, but it worked out just fine. It cost us each $130 for the room and parking, so the price wasn't a huge improvement, but we had our own king-sized bed in our own hotel room. Save for Otakon 1999, this is the only Otakon where I've actually felt rested and ready-to-go on Saturday and Sunday, and it's entirely because I got a good night's rest and a long shower every night.
We also branched out for lunch and dinner. As much as it's lots of fun to eat in groups, the timing just didn't work for that this year. But we realized that it's really easy to get a table at UNO's for 2 for dinner. Also, the food court in the Gallery mall is much less crowded than the inner harbor one, and they've got some decent food.
Tomorrow I'll try to get some of our photos up. Right now I'm gonna get some sleep and watch some of the DVDs I got at the con.
