I know it's been a very long time, and for that I'm sorry, but I've been a little bit busy as of late. Ironically enough, I've been busy at work, not at home, but all that time in front of the computer all day has made me loathe to sit in front of the computer at night and put together comic strips. What I really need to aleviate that is either more time, so I can do everything I do and make comics, or more money so I don't have to go to work. But I'm not so derranged as to start a ridiculous donation drive on the site as so many other web comics have done. If you want, though, you can click on the "merchandise" link in the menu and pick up some gear. I add stuff every once in a while, even not site-related stuff.
Anyhow, anyone who doesn't know the story behind the Omni... it's a 1988 Dodge Omni hatchback in running condition... though definitely not in good condition. Getting the car up to the 55 mph necessary for Garden State Parkway travel is quite a feat in and of itself, much less doing it in a way that won't get me killed. I recently got a new car, though, so I'm getting my last licks in on the Omni while I can.
At work we're working on 2 very interesting projects. One is an events calendar and it's sort of Tryon's pet project. We're getting really good at this, this being the third events calendar system he's created. We've got a lot of neat features, not the least of which being AJAX support (Asynchronous Javascript And XML) which allows us to reload only the portions of the page that needed updating.
The other project is still a little secretive, but I'm glad to say that I'm putting to use some the algorithms I learned back in Larry D'Antonio's classes. It's just a bit of a drag to implement them in PHP, which is very limited when it comes to effectively handling heavy computation algorithms.
My other pet project has been capturing HDTV MPEG2 transport streams from my cable box and converting them to XviD in HDTV resolutions. I'd share some of that with you all, but the file sizes are ridiculous. What I've figured out, though, is that I can fit 40 minutes of 24fps 720p video on a single CDR... which means 1 CDR per episode of say West Wing or Law & Order, etc ...
Well, it's time for me to pass out. Hopefully the next update won't be so long in coming.
