2005-04-05 - Scrubs

Rant show/hide

As you can tell, we're big fans of Scrubs around here. Moreso, we're huge fans of John C. McGinley. I watch Scrubs whenever it's on, and I have 2 movies that he was in (not too easy considering some of the, well, crap he's been in). It's hard to watch them in a row, too, since he's such a good character actor. You'd have a hard time believing you're watching the same actor. From the angry-beyond-belief Dr. Cox on Scrubs, to the semi-skinhead robber in Nothing to Lose, to the corporate-speaking consultant in Office Space, and then back around again to play the gay gunslinger in Wagons East... he's very good at creating characters.
I have some images to scan, and I'll get them up tomorrow. I got some art supplies (tipped brushes, india ink, and a Rapidograph), and I tried them out. Nothing I made is a work of beauty (mostly because I haven't used these tools since early high school), but it's always fun to play with the media you use. I actually inked this comic strip using brush & ink for most of it and the Rapidograph for the cross-hatching. (look closely, it's in there but when I scale it down this much it looks like grey tones) While I'm pleased with the inking results, it took about 2 hours for inking alone. That's 2 hours for 3 panels... The cross-hatching takes almost no time at all, but since I'm scaling down so much, I probably can get away with the Sharpie for the thicker lines. Ever more experimentation to come.
UPDATE: Hung out with Tryon tonight, so I didn't get any time at the computer to scan those images. I'll try to do them tomorrow night during my weekly TV binge.
