I'm gonna try to keep this short, as I need to get some sleep so I can make it to the polls before work tomorrow.
     First of all, I haven't gotten into a confrontation... yet. I'm sure at some point i'll get into some sort of disagreement with somebody about the election at some point tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to sway some votes with my witty retorts for all the "shortcomings" they'll point out in Kerry. I've gotta admit, I still would rather see either Howard Dean or Wes Clark on the ticket, but as far as cadidates go, you could do much worse than John Kerry.
     The Redskins lost their home game before the election this year. Since I believe 1938 you could accurately predict the presidential election by whether or not the Washington Redskins won their last home game before the election. Whenever they won, the incumbent won. Whenever they lost, the challenger won. This year they lost... and hopefully that'll mean Bush loses too. (Of course, with the Red Sox winning the World Series, anything is possible this year in the world of sports.)
     Mostly, though, I'm encouraged by Electoral Vote, a site which culls together polls from all the states and uses them to estimate how many electoral votes each candidate will get. As of 12:00 AM on the morning of the election, they're predicting Kerry 298, Bush 231. I'm hoping that their statistical analysis will be accurate, as I want this all settled by tomorrow night. I want to go to bed knowing that Kerry is decicively the President of the United States.
     What doesn't fill me with confidence is the footage of the 2003 summer barbecue at the White House in HBO's documentary "Diary of a Political Tourist." When asked about whether he's nervous about the campaign, one of the many high-ranking republicans at the function said "of course not. We do the counting." Hopefully, we'll have a mandate from the masses which will keep the corruption at bay.
