2003-12-11 - Masturbation Pays Off

Rant show/hide

Hey folks. Two appologies tonight... one for the extra long delay, and the other for drawing Mike so shittily. I was trying to draw him thin because he's quite possibly the most wiry person I've ever met, but his face really shouldn't be elongated like that. I also didn't have the ability to draw in a Master of Puppets t-shirt or his characteristic black leather pants. Mike's wardrobe is pretty identifiable.
There's a lot of people I hope to work into Pie2k at some point. A lot of the freshmen are cool, especially Ed, who is definitely worthy of a comic strip. Mike and Joe both gave me guest strips, also, so you'll be seeing those soon.
At any rate, I've been working on my portfolio site in the hopes that it'll get me a job. I just want someone to look at my resumé, see the link to the portfolio site, and have a look. Maybe they'll think to themselves "damn, this guy actually knows what he's doing... mayb he would be able to do this job. I'm really tired of two concepts: experience and absurd skillsets. You all should know about the experience paradox, but the skillset one is more prevalent in computer fields than anywhere else. Basically, to get even the most basic programming gig, you have to know at least 15 programming languages, 5 database protocols, the most intimate details of 3 Unix's, a couple of servers, and at least 4 specific obscure groupware programs that nobody but that one company uses.
To the computer industry at large: stop it with the acronyms already. We get it... you like to give things shitty titles whose initials spell things. It was never cute... and it defintely was never helpful. And I'll be damned if FX stands for "foriegn exchange."
