There's something incredibly cool to live in an area that went completely dark for what Ernie Anastos called "the worst power outage... ever." For those who don't know, I live in Mahwah, New Jersey, just south of the New York border, and Ernie Anastos (or however his name is actually spelled) is a local anchorman. At about 4:10 pm, we lost power in the main academic buildings here at Ramapo College and I thought nothing of it. We've lost power a few times this summer due to construction of the new Bill Bradley Arena and Recreation Center. (side note: I made that site, do you like it?)
Anyhow, the power went out and the freezer warmed up and the gallon of ice cream I just bought yesterday was starting to melt. It was about 8:00 pm, and we didn't have any power with which to cook any dinner. So, we decided to eat dessert instead. Beth, Bill, and I were able to polish off a half-gallon of mint chocolate chip, but were way to full to eat the half gallon of black cherry that was slowly turning to liquid in the freezer, so we tried to give it away. We were literally standing outside on the hottest day of the summer so far trying to give one of the several dozen assembled people a free half-gallon of cold ice cream, and we still had no takers. What the fuck?
Well, Beth doesn't have the sweet tooth I have, so I ended up polishing off the lion's share of that half-gallon. I was about as sluggish as sluggish got. Of course, though, she was still a little hungry (not having dinner and all) and I said "Y'know, if I had electricity, I was planning on cooking a good meal." Well, wouldn't you know it... the electricty came on around 9:20 pm. Wonderful.. now I have to cook. Thankfully, though, Beth is very understanding and let me sit and digest until I was feeling a little less sluggish, and I was quite thankful for that. We ended up making hamburger helper burritos, like the incredibly healthy people we are. (that's a tortilla filled with hamburger helper and a bunch of cheese... as though you couldn't figure that out)
Well, that's it for the topical comics for now... tomorrow I'll be back with another Otakon Pie2k. Too much funny shit happened for me to stop making comics about it.
