Rant show/hide

Perhaps now would be a good time to regale you with the story of the Big Screen.
Ramapo College's CCIS (Center for Computing and Information Services) used to use extremely large TV's and scan converters to hook a computer up in the front of a class room for demonstrations and presentations. A few years ago, they decided to upgrade one of these screens and they got the Big TV (we have no idea what the actual model name is, but it's a MItsubishi). This 40-inch monster is not your average TV. It is a high-resolution display that takes Composite, S-Video, and (most importantly) BNC Component RGB, the raw signal a monitor outputs, minus all the plug & play crap.
So, CCIS used this thing for a while, but then upgraded again to projectors in every area. For a year, this TV sat out in their hallway in "possibly garbage limbo" where no one was really quite sure wheter it was toast or not.
But one day, someone at CCIS actually made a decision and the TV was tossed in the CCIS garbage pile. Now, TV's have a toxic chemical lining the inner walls of the picture tube. With a TV that size, the school would have had to pay for Hazmat removal. Solution! Leave it out in the garbage pile until someone takes it away.
Bill & I were waiting for this to happen and swooped down like vultures when it did. Grabbing a VCR, a copy of "The Neggotiator" and a Composite cable, we took a trip over to test it out. And then nearly fainted when we realized that it (A) worked, (B) looked beautiful and (C) put out enough raditaion to cook a small rodent in under 30 seconds.
     In other words... perfect!
So, on a Sunday afternoon, with no real confirmation as to whether this thing was thrown away or not, we wheeled the 400lb TV on its aluminum stand and caster wheels across campus, on concrete, and down steep hills... Damn near broke our necks. When we got the thing in and hooked up Soul Calibur via the VGA cable though... it was so worth it.
