Rant show/hide

Bush's final State of the Union was tonight. While the finality of it all, the sheer lameness of this duck, was cause for celebration I simply couldn't help but be infuriated by a lot of the stuff I heard. Aside from the line above (which was early in the speech giving me time to draw the strip while watching the remainder), Bush also tried one more time to latch Iraq onto 9/11, tried to levy an ultimatum against Iran to shut down a nuclear program that our own intelligence shows has been dead for more than 2 years, insisted that Democrats pass the FISA bill that allows for phone companies to go scott-free for spying on their own customers even though the administration insists that it's legal ... You don't need legal protection from prosecution of a non-crime.
He wants his tax cuts renewed, even though they only help out people who make over $150,000 in any significant way. He wants to cut earmarks in half, even though he gets first crack at putting earmarks on the federal budget (and usually accounts for more than half of them). He wants to pull more money out of public schools to put into Pell grants for private primary and secondary education. He wants to gut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid in order to "save" them.
Even the random apolitical things he said that nobody could possibly disagree with were infuriating. He proclaimed that the US is against the genocide in Darfur, and then proposed absolutely jack shit to help end that genocide.
Outside of that though it's been a pretty good few days since the last update. I've dug out the N64 and am having some fun nostalgia moments. I'm 28 stars into a new game of Mario 64 and through level 1 of Turok. Maybe I'll dig some other games out and start them anew (after I order a new not-so-busted controller).
