This happened quite a while ago actually, and there was a bunch of us there. But I didn't feel like drawing them all, and since Commie and Bill are really the critical players, I let my laziness take over. It was really one of those "you had to be there" things, but there is actually some reasoning behind this. Commie had limited funds, so if the soup sucked, he would've splurged on a milkshake. If the soup was good, he would just get a coke and a bowl of soup later with his meal. Turned out the soup was good, so he got a soda.
I have plenty of things to bitch and whine about for this rant, but I'm gonna stick to just one of the most recent ones. I'm having some issues with the upstairs neighbors. Namely that they like to blast "music" (oh how wonderful rap can be when it's just the bass being forced through your ceiling) and jump around, but only between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. WHEEEEEE! I get to be sleep deprived! But that's just a minor gripe. I've lived with loud people in loud buildings, it's no biggie.
What gets at me is what happens when I call in a security complaint. Hey, I said I could deal with it, but that doesn't mean that I have to deal with it. But the problem is that every time I call security, the jerks upstairs realize that security is coming, shut everything down, and jump out the back windows. Security never gets in the front door 'cause there's nobody there to answer it.
So this time, wanting them to actually get in trouble and (please please please) get kicked off campus, I told security "You might want to send two guards, since they jump out the back windows whenever they see you coming." And the lady there says "Oh, they don't see us coming, it's policy that we have to call them to notify them before we go to investigate the complaint."
WHAT THE FUCK?!?! What does that call sound like? "Hi, there's a noise complaint against you, we're gonna come over, so put away all the booze and get the freshmen rushes out before we get there." This new policy really prevents security from doing their job. As a student who generally doesn't act like an ass, I would't be angry if security dropped by my apartment without first calling. If security can't catch them doing anything wrong, then what's the deterrent to doing it?
This actually turns out to be a much bigger rant about how restrictive Ramapo's rules for campus life are. We're not allowed to have instruments in the residences. Seriously. Even music majors. The only reason why we can get away with it is because the rule isn't enforced. They only enforce it if you spend all night playing heavy metal at high volumes and they want to take away your guitar. The term "broad discresionary power" comes to mind. If security suddenly decided that they were going to enforce these rules (which they could at any moment), we'd be living a pretty miserable existence. I say we should revise the rules for campus living. Make them more realistic, and then enforce them strictly. That, I feel, would be a much better way of doing things.
