UPDATE: Hi folks, no Pie2k for today. Sorry, I just got no sleep Sunday night, and when it came around to doing the strip, I was completely passed out. I'll get a strip up Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, but for now I'm gonna get some sleep. Somehow I got through today at work in a complete sleep-induced fog and yet somehow managed to get 60 pages of corrections done on the EOF website.
It's no secret that I'm not a fan of Square. It's something about the games they make that I really really hate. I think The Bouncer pretty much sums up my opnion of Square. Beautiful art, beautiful graphics, reasonable sound, but nothing more than a new set of character-building rule systems that do little to prop up an archaic dying gameplay model. And why rant about it now? Well, with Penny Arcade, Mac Hall, Megatokyo, and Something Positive all talking about gaming in some form, I just naturally thought about how much I really despise Square. Fuck Square.
I've found that, even though I have a lot more free time during the summer, I still keep wishing I had more spare time. There are so many projects I put off until summer that I probably won't have time to get to. I still have to get my Senior Project done, which I haven't touched at all this summer so far. I also wanted to get a second game done this summer as well, that way I'd have a more complete portfolio. Maybe a game with 3D graphics so that I could flex a little bit of OpenGL skill. I want to get my projective shadows going with simulated cloth on an actual character, but I really really doubt I'll have the time. Maybe I'll be able to do a simple 2D gameplay/ 3D graphics game before the end, but I think my extra algorithms will be relegated to demos. We'll see.
I think that tomorrow, after getting my grocery shopping done, I'm gonna lock myself down and at least get my C cloth demo implemented as a C++ class. Then I'll add the critical missing algorithms (surface normal generation, transformed sphere contact mapping, etc...). Vector math tends to give me a headache, though... especially everything I ever find about it on the internet is copied out of "Computer Graphics: C Version" (the book we used in Comp Graphics class).
Oh well,... I think I will leave the far-away plans for later. I've done enough important stuff this week. I've gone to the nurse's office to figure out what's going on with my ear (turns out Q-tips can irritate your ear, which actually causes it to cause more wax... clean often enough and you get a clog). I also started my tuition payment program today, instantly removed $1,400+ from my bank account... but it's going toward a good cause. This year I will not get deregistered or dehoused, and I don't even have to rely on anyone to loan me any money. Shocking!
