On the first day we went to the dealers' room and found this guy giving out Yu Yu Hakusho CCG demos. Unfortunately, he couldn't sit still for more than 3 milliseconds between snapping photos of girls in costume. Fun at work, I guess.
Next we went over to the artists' alley, where we met Ian McConville of MacHall and bought Cthulu shirts. Swank gear. Also, Kelly thinks Ian is cute, but wussed out when it came time to tell him. Just thought I'd throw that in... he's got her totally starstruck, it's hilarious.
Then these guys came over while we were standing there. Their costumes looked especially cool in person. Too bad Gabe and Tycho were too swamped to come, surely they would've gotten a kick out of it.
Same as above, but a better look at the excellent Pacman on the back.
Jon and I met up with Kelly and we went to meet up with Jon's circle of friends from University of Chicago. Here's a shot of Kimberly dressed as Alele from Dr. Slump. Don't fault me on the spelling, I've never read/watched it (or really know what it is).
Helena was dressed as Witch Hunter Robin that day. Definitely the best Robin costume at the con, if for no other reason than because she used materials that look right for the costume.
At some point on Friday I got to play F-Zero GX on an HDTV... it kicked so much ass. It's got a problem with the controls being a little touchy, so pick a car with weak grip... but it was a lot of fun, and plenty of fast. After that we headed back to the hotel and went to sleep.
Here's Kelly in the elevator on Saturday morning. That's a transition, I guess. Next Picture!
Right into the convention hall Rasa, dressed as Clark, found a bunch of other King of Fighters cosplayers. Here's their picture. They would rock if they weren't so apathetic. Rasa: "Wanna pose with me for a picture?" Guys:"Meh"
Definitely one of the coolest costumes in the dealers' room. Seriously, Gir is a damn cool character to cosplay as.
Here's Melissa and Kat dressed as Zelda and Sheik, thereby violating some law of physics.
Helena dressed as Misha from Pita-Ten, or so Jon tells me. Seriously, I watch so little anime compared to everyone else at these cons. You could dress any way you want and convince me that it's some sort of anime character. "My T-Shirt is blue, and I have black pants! I'm Blah from Ichi Monkey Koradoran!" Me:"Cool! Let me get your picture!"
Now here's a character I do know. Kimberly's Trogdor costume was made at the con out of a pizza box and a pair of chopsticks. And everybody knew who she was, it was quite cool.
These girls dressed up as Bub & Bob from Bubble Bobble. That's just fucking awesome.
These Ghostbusters costumes were really cool. The actual suits were pretty basic, but the backpacks were spot-on. All the way down to the blinking lights and etc...
This Pikachu costume was pretty sweet. I would say it's about the quality of a Six-Flags costume except for the face-plate between Pikachu's eyes. I wonder if there was any way around that, but I can't think of any that doesn't severly limit visibility.
But this costume really took the cake. Some girl dressed as Samus, and it was top-notch quality. She basically made a body suit out of vinyl patchwork and then made armor patches to go on top of it out of either plastic or cardboard, but it didn't look cheap in any way. And then the helmet was a doctored motorcycle hemet... very cool.
And this is a shot from the last day of the con. As we waited in line to meet the Megatokyo folk, Bill, Corey, and I made a line buddy. She's from Kentucky, and was commenting on how boring it is during the summer when she's not at Otakon. I figure Kentucky and Tennessee border each other (I think, too lazy to look at a map), so she should meet up with Katie at some point and talk about anime or something.
Well, that's all the photos I've got... that are any decent anyway. Comic tomorrow, be sure to come back. :)
